Sand Carpet showcasing the new ege collection “Reform Mark of Time”

Chan Chan moodboard Talk Carpet

Just outside of Trujillo, Peru, we visited the breathtakingly historical site of Chan Chan. The historic town located in the northwest region of the country was home to the Chimú Empire. The Chimú lived in a desert area of Peru, and their primary source of nutrition was the sea life. You can still see the depiction of how much they appreciated and relied on the sea in the wall art of the buildings. Chan Chan was the home of artisans, priests, and people who worked for the monarchy and in inspiring our sand carpet palette.

All the beautifully crafted buildings were made of adobe bricks, which was the signature material of the Chimú architecture. Adobe bricks are made of mud and are incredibly delicate when exposed to rain. Luckily, the Chimú empire lived in an arid area of Peru, which allowed the adobe bricks to withstand time. The town featured ten palaces with walls featuring designs depicting sea life and geometric shapes. Nowadays, the adobe brick constructions are shrinking due to heavy rain in the area. The National Institute is covering the bricks to protect the constructions from the weather.

Keeping the beautiful constructions of the Chimú empire in mind, we used the Reform Mark of Time Bedrock Sand by ege carpets. This collection focuses on sustainability and creates a unique and poetic look by using rough and random designs found in nature. In this collection, ege carpets feature a multi-level loop construction which creates a unique and intricate structure. This sand carpet recolor is a great neutral option for your next interior design project.

Using the sand carpet and Chan Chan’s constructions as the main inspiration for this material board, we decided to use sandy-toned materials in different textures. Harvest Gold Sandstone by Kafka Granite adds some gorgeous texture and unique sandy colors to the material board. We also included lighter-toned materials like Grandstand Pine and Arcaico BorderLatitude by MDC Interior Solutions and Atoll by Burch add some unique yet delicate patterns to the board. Champagne Stainless by Formica adds a bit of gray to the board just so your eye can take a little break from the monochrome tones. Lastly, Prestige by Architex adds a dark sand tone to the board to anchor the colors.

Sitting right next to Pompidou in Paris is Atelier Brancusi. This place is a reconstruction of the studio of renowned Romanian-born artist Constantin Brancusi. In the atelier, there are 137 sculptures, 87 bases, 41 drawings, two paintings, and more than 1600 grass photographic plates and prints by the artist.

Brancusi died in 1957, leaving behind a lot of his work in his studio, which consisted of 11 joined studios. The Romanian artist would break down walls to adjoin studios and create various environments to exhibit his work. He considered the relationship between sculptures and the space they occupied to be of crucial importance.

In 1997, the Atelier Brancusi as we know it today opened its doors on the esplanade of the Center Pompidou. So much of Brancusi’s work is on display at the atelier, giving you an idea of how much the artist put into the world. There are wood and plaster sculptures, bronze colonnades, animal shapes, and photographic studies. It is a beautiful and inspiring place to visit.

Inspired by the stone and natural textures of Brancusi’s work, we recolored the Stone Surface carpet. This is part of the nature collection by ege carpets, which takes inspiration from forests, deserts, and oceans. This light recolor of the carpet allows you to bring a textured palette to your next interior design project.

We created a material board that focuses on a textured palette with the atelier colors and the recolored carpet in mind. We included dark woods like Texas Mesquite 83000 and Artisanal Hardwoods. Keeping the dark brown theme, we also included different textured textiles like Artisan Textured Finishes by CopperSmith, Basketcase by Cortina Leathers, Lafayette Velvet by Opuzen, and Chesney by Valley Forge Fabrics. Additionally, we decided to bring some lighter tones of cream and white by adding Cove, True Terrazzo, Concrete Look Porcelain Paver, and Passion. To tie in the soft colors with the dark ones, we included mid-toned neutral paints like Crewel Tan by Sherwin-Williams and Mesa Tan by Dunn-Edwards Paints.

If you like our textured palette, you might be interested in our Easy Recolor Program.
