One of the most unique design projects in China is the Galaxy Desert campsite in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the country. The service facilities center was created by 3andwich Design, a Chinese studio. The campsite features various places where people can camp in the Chinese desert and have a unique experience.
The main building of the facilities center features a stack of white cube-like shapes. Inside it, the ground floor has a reception area and restaurant. The events hall is on the second floor, and the VIP space is on the third. The upper levels open out to a terrace. The overall shape of the building was inspired by the history and myths of the desert, creating a profile excavated from the sand. The shell of the facility intends to create a cooler microclimate to prevent overheating.
Inspired by the desert campsite, we decided to use the Beige Seagrass Rug by Talk Carpet as the basis of this material board. The muted tones of the sand in the desert allowed us to create a neutral desert-inspired palette. Additionally, the facilities center of the campsite inspired us to include wood, as well as green shades and metallic tones, similar to the main structure.
For this material board, we included neutral tones similar to the rug, such as Cembrit Patina by American Fiber Cement, Naturel by Sherwin Williams, Stone House by Benjamin Moore, and Flat Woven by Curator. We also decided to include dark wood tones, such as Copper Veil by Formica and Wonderwood Walnut by Wolf Gordon. Lastly, we had Metallic Mist Transparent by Carvart to add some color to the overall palette.
Talk Carpet’s new rug shop is a great option to add just the right finishing touch to your design project with an area rug. We offer the best commercial-grade area rugs made from recycled nylon. The rug shop also features an online tool, which allows you to visualize the design and choose the size to your liking. Our standard lead time is ten weeks, including shipping.
