Our review of the SuperDesign Show Milan 2021 at Superstudio

SuperDesign Show Milan 2021 features two important events meant to expand your design horizon. The R/evolution is an original display setup at Superstudio Più, the innovative center that gathers creative individuals. The exhibits cover popular topics such as smart homes, innovative product techniques, and female creativity. Prestigious Italian and international artists, architects, and brands gathered to show their perspectives through a unique approach. They focus on indoor and outdoor living while emphasizing creativity.

Design beyond Design is an event that expands the horizons of SuperDesign Show Milan 2021. We had the chance to visit the new Superstudio Maxi, an exhibition venue with an innovative perspective. The multimedia event allows visitors to experience design through multidisciplinary activities while admiring the new building. You can grasp the concepts through photo collections, videos, workshops, performances, or discussions. The choices give you enough freedom to find the option that suits your preferences.

The SuperDesign Show Milan 2021 was an inspiring experience for us. In addition, we share some of the creative installations as seen during Milan Design Week.

La Moda diventa arte

Flavio Lucchini is a sculptor and artist above all. However, the love for art isn’t his only endeavor. Lucchini is a famous entrepreneur, architect, and editor. It is one of the exhibitions featured in SuperDesign Show Milan 2021 with self-reliance. Visitors to the SuperDesign Show Milan 2021 can observe hundreds of pieces, witnessing his remarkable achievements. The artist is famous for experimenting with different techniques and materials while highlighting diversity.

Flavio’s collection features monumental sculptures, digital artwork, artistic totems, and paintings in different techniques. We can describe his signature style as a dynamic mix between fashion and art. As soon as you enter, his Divine welcomes you to the open space. This sculpture symbolizes intelligence and beauty while highlighting the art of creativity. The Ghosts feature bodies that have drifted away, interpreted through the fluttering dress. The Dolls reveal the naive nature while having a provocative note.

Paperthinks

Many think of paper as a fragile and useless material. But that’s not the case with Daniele Papuli. The artist plays with paper, but not in terms of paintings. Instead, he lets the soft material take new shapes guided by his hands. Danielle uses paper’s advantages, such as flexibility, to provide a unique sensory experience. His Paperthinks feature strips, lamellas, or threads that overlay to create a stunning composition. The simple elements give enough freedom when making, which stands for endless possibilities. Daniele’s affinity towards paper as the primary material dates back to when he visited a workshop in Berlin. He learned the paper production method before introducing his first masterpiece in 1997.

PopDesign

Diego and Guido Gugliermetto join their forces to shape polyurethane into bizarre seats. It seems like unconventional designs run into their family DNA, so prepare yourself for a surprise. The giant champagne corks surprised us with the quirky design created to celebrate the opening of the new Superstudio Maxi space.

Rays of light

Adriana Lohmann and Giò Colonna Romano designed a fantastic light installation that promotes reflective thinking. The tall lighting symbolizes the problems one could encounter in life, the possible solutions, and the enlightenment. The lights that create this installation are an innovative product made of recycled materials. The art piece is showcased with contemporary dancers to emphasize its meaning.

1000 vases

The exhibition shows how artists can unleash their creativity, transforming a single object 1,000 times. It first made its debut in Paris in 2018. The 1000 vases then traveled to Dubai in 2019, returning to Paris last September during Maison & Objet and collaborating with Jacquemus. This is the first time this exhibition has been featured in Milan design week. The project gathers designers from 40 different countries, putting their talents into creating vases. They use different materials and techniques to craft unique designs, proving that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
