Stone carpet with a gentle nod to the typical Armenian Tuff facade

During our visit to Armenia, we fell in love with the beautiful architecture. The material used to construct the buildings stood out the most to us. The buildings in both Yerevan and Gyumri featured beautiful tuff stone with tints of a variety of colors and unique patterns. Some buildings had such a wide variety of tuff colors and patterns that it created a pixelated effect.

This unique stone is Armenian Tuff, and it is the main material that the country uses in construction. Tuff comes from the burning of ash and pumice, which occurs when a volcano erupts. The stone was very easy to find in Armenia, and it had many benefits. Tuff is lightweight and breathable; it is easy to handle and keeps buildings at a comfortable temperature throughout the year. Additionally, the stone comes in a variety of colors, such as yellow, pink, red, and black, as well as many patterns. Tuff is so common in Armenia that the biggest cities in the country are named after the tuff that was most used in the construction of their buildings. Yerevan is known as the Pink Tuff City, and Gyumri is the Black Tuff City.

Inspired by the many patterns and colors of tuff, we recolored the Marbling carpet from the Arts & Crafts Collection. This stone carpet is extremely reminiscent of some of the patterns that you can find on tuff in Armenian buildings. Additionally, the neutral colors make it easy to match with any interior while making you feel like you are stepping back in time to a historical city.

Keeping our inspiration in mind, the material board features grey-toned materials like Cembrit Patina, Octave, and Stainless Embossed Starlight. We also included Monarch Plank’s Garda to add wood texture with a color very similar to the recolored carpet. Additionally, we included grey-toned paints such as Peppercorn, Textured, and Snowfall. To add a pop of color, we included Roycroft Copper Red by Sherwin-Williams. Lastly, we included stone-like materials like Blox by Silver State Inc. and Solid Mosaic Giovanni Barbieri, to complement our stone carpet.

Talk Carpet’s Easy Recolor program allows you to easily recolor any of our carpet designs to perfectly complement your workplace, hospitality, or multifamily project. We offer a variety of carpet constructions, and you can receive your personalized carpet within eight weeks. If you want to customize the perfect carpet, contact us.
