Pixelated carpet recreates La Muralla Roja by architect Ricardo Bofill

We are absolutely in love with La Muralla Roja, overlooking the ocean on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Inspired by Arab Mediterranean architecture and the casbah, architect Ricardo Bofill created the residential home to look like a castle in 1968. The housing project is located within the La Manzanera development in Spain’s Calpe. The citadel uses large block-like structural elements to make the residential space postmodern in design. It is those blocks that are the inspiration for our pixelated carpet.

The unique design creates an open terrace with a rooftop view overlooking the beautiful ocean. Vibrant red and purple colors are used for the structure’s exterior colors and the rooftop to symbolize the La Muralla Roja’s meaning, as it stands for “The Red Wall” in Spanish. Zigzag stair shapes lead down to the lower levels, where more playful colors are used, including bright pink, purple, red, and blue. The whole building plays with a modern and edgy design.

For this material board, we used Pixel Noise recolored into the colors of the La Muralla Roja building. The vibrant blue, pink, red, and burgundy colors used in our pattern perfectly recreates the Spanish citadel’s appearance. The blocky square shapes aligned in different colors resemble the vibrant walls of the beautiful casbah structure.
