Many of the buildings in Antigua, Guatemala, are old ruin-style buildings typically with organic patterns. It is normal for local establishments to have entrances made out of plywood, usually with picklocks holding it together. In traditional Guatemalan fashion, these wooden doors have bright colors and designs. While walking through the old streets of Antigua, we see Y Tu Pina Tambien restaurant. This modern and trendy restaurant is home to visitors and locals in the area, with a hipster vibe.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed, but we get to see their baby blue door with yellow piping along the top. We instantly find it such an aesthetic photo because of the organic patterns seen from the cracks of the walls and door. The door itself remains natural, as you can see with its organic lines and chipping paint.
Similarly, our Imperfection carpet design is redesigned into a seamless, beautiful green and yellow organic pattern. This version of this design truly translates the restaurant’s weathering appearance. The yellow brushstrokes recreate the yellow rectangular frames on the blue door. The same goes for the blue; it adds an antique yet elegant, just like the paint peeling off.
For our material board, we use the Imperfection carpet as the main focal point. We then add complementary contract materials such as Sunkissed, a creme color ceramic tile, Sugar Plank, Elements Stripes, and Sadeya, a beautiful baby blue wall covering. Additionally, we add a bright blue wood slab called Deck Tile and paired that with Boost Pro Paint, a porcelain tile with organic designs. Finally, we add Paloma and Inland to tie everything together.
