Milan is a city with lots of inspiration everywhere and even more so during Milan Design Week. This edition we discovered a unique chair out for display on the city streets in the Brera district. Inspired by the Hortensia floral chair by Moooi, we came up with this dreamy carpet. Milan Design Week 2021 offered tons of inspiration for crafting custom carpet patterns, so we translated this setup into a modern floral carpet.
Moooi is a Dutch designer brand responsible for the Hortensia chair. This great armchair existed solely as a digital piece. Different manufacturing companies stated that the texture is impossible to replicate. However, this digital product soon went into physical production thanks to a small carpentry workshop in Barcelona. Júlia Esqué is a textile designer that supervised the crafting process. They enhanced the wooden structure with sculpted foam, which holds the stunning upholstery.
The Hortensia chair is a luxurious armchair with a gracious feminine touch. The gentle texture consists of 30,000 petals crafted from fine fabric. While large manufacturers considered the specific design near impossible to replicate, the dedicated team did their job perfectly. The abundance of fragile petals inspired us to design a precious carpet with serene vibes.
This Moooi hortensia-inspired carpet features a muted grey color scheme on a white background. We designed a few different flowers while keeping up the defined style and color scheme. Some of them feature stripes for texture, while others have cream petals for added visual touch. We dispersed the blooms to resemble the chair’s delicate texture while overlapping them for an authentic look. Our team managed to design a carpet with a modern and light feel. This delicate floral pattern is rich in detail but doesn’t overwhelm the space due to the carefully picked colors. It is the perfect pick if you want to bring playfulness when designing an interior but still want neutral colors. This “Moooi installation” inspired carpet creates a serene and relaxing ambiance, making it a great and expected choice for offices allowing to bring nature inside.
