Muizenberg is a beach town in Western Cape Town, South Africa. It is an independent seaside town and is located on the shore of the Cape Peninsula. Sitting 18 miles from the city center, the town has been a top-rated vacation destination since the 19th century. The town is full of fun and adventurous bohemian culture and is famous for its large and lively white beach. Popular for being a surfer’s paradise, there are always people hanging out on the beach.
The beaches of Muizenberg are famous for their surfers and the colorful beach huts along the coast. The beach huts are in a linear pattern, with each beach hut very close to the next. Located between Muizenberg and St. James, the cabins are the only remaining beach houses from 20th century Edwardian architecture. The houses are in an Italian style, with pops of color on each wall. The huts are so picture-famous that they are often on travel magazines, postcards and are one of the most Instagrammable spots in Cape Town.
We enjoy these beach huts so much that we immediately felt our creative juices flowing. The idea sprouted to create a linear carpet pattern reflecting the many angles and lines of the roofs and stairs.
