Located in the heart of the historic Barranco district, Hotel B is Lima’s top art boutique hotel. Filled with creativity, the hotel draws its inspiration from the Bohemian atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel also showcases works by contemporary Peruvian artists. The hotel is full of artworks that anyone can spend the entire day admiring. The piece that caught out attention is in the main hallway leading to the elevators and staircase; this piece is called “Territory” by Daniela Napurí and reminds us of an HIV tribute.
Created in 2011, “Territory” is a piece of acrylic bent in different directions with heat. This piece is a wavy texture that is bright red, very patriotic to the Peruvian flag. The work of art lies on top of the striped wall of Hotel B. This piece is one of the hotel’s most recognizable and photographed artworks they have ever featured.
Inspired by the abstract silhouette and colors, we decided to create a carpet design that tribute HIV. This carpet features the classic red HIV ribbon in a new way. Instead of the classic looping shape, the ribbon flows differently, creating unique conditions as if it is blowing in the wind. We kept the red color of the ribbon because the meaning of solidarity and support makes an impact. The background of the red lines is vertical grey and black stripes to resemble the original scene of the artwork in Hotel B. This pattern adds just the right amount of uniqueness and modern touches to a carpet design that can be used in offices worldwide.
