The historic La Samaritaine department store in Paris has recently reopened after renovations. The building was established in 1870 by Ernest and Marie-Louise Cognacq-Jay. Additionally, La Samaritaine consists of various buildings designed by Frantz Jourdain and Henri Sauvage. Nowadays, the complex consists of 20,000 square meters of retail space over three floors, a nursery, 96 social housing units, and 15,000 square meters of office space.
La Samaritaine went through renovations for 16 years. La Samaritaine’s art-nouveau building was introduced in 1910, and an art deco extension in 1928. In 2001, La Samaritaine was bought by LVMH, a French-holding multinational corporation and conglomerate specializing in luxury goods. In 2005, the department closed for renovations and reopened in 2021. The modern construction of the complex features a department store, spa, luxury hotel, personal shopping services, beauty studio, concierge, and other high-end services.
Overall, the renovation marries architectural features with contemporary elements. Additionally, it included a new undulating glass structure designed by SANAA and a beautifully lit interior redesigned by Yabu Pushelberg. The outside of the building features bright yellow and small floral details. The lighting has a modern take on it with a unique geometric pattern inside. However, the interior still brings in classic art deco elements, including the beautifully crafted railing of the stairs.
We took inspiration from the colors of the outside of the building and the geometric shapes of the lighting inside. Therefore, we created a custom architecture-inspired carpet. This custom carpet features delicate line designs inspired by the intricate design of the railings in the store. Additionally, the inspiration for the colors of the carpet came from the yellow and greys of the structure of La Samaritaine.
Our custom program is a great option if you want to use this architecture-inspired carpet for your next interior project. We offer budget-friendly options starting at $21/SY. Additionally, we design custom wall-to-wall broadloom carpet patterns, carpet tiles, or rugs in various colors and designs.
