The construction process started in 1296, lasting for several centuries until The Duomo achieved today’s look. At that time, the exterior had the least priority in the architectural process. Hence, the ornate facade dates to the nineteenth century, several centuries after they completed the initial construction, and is a display of Gothic revival architecture.
