This captivating Lake Como palazzo inspires our antique carpet palette

Palazzo albricci peregrini moodboard Talk Carpet

For our latest antique carpet mood board, we took inspiration from the Palazzo Albricci Peregrini Hotel in Como, Italy. The architecture and interior design of the space are unique and captivating. Set inside medieval walls, the hotel exudes character, history, and authenticity. The interior has a similarly raw yet elegant charm, making guests feel welcome and cozy. All of the pieces that make up the décor have been carefully chosen by the designers. They focused on objects made locally or from precious materials and collected through years of travel. This makes the place feel alive and colorful, with the imperfections in the handcrafted furniture only adding to the charm.

Within the hotel, we came across a room that kept many of its original decaying features as part of the intelligent design work. Many of the walls are peeling with different layers of paint and wallpaper showing stories of the past. Within these layers, you can see patterns emerge when you let your imagination run wild. This is where we took inspiration from when designing our antique carpet. We recolored the design to match Palazzo Albricci Peregrini’s walls, opting for muted blues, corals, and beige. The recolored carpet by ege is the backdrop for our latest mood board.

On top of this, we layered several different materials. Two – Embossed Raffia Diamond by Barbarossa Leather and Nouveau by Wolf-Gordon – have distinct geometric patterning. We love the contrast of these rigid, repetitive patterns against the more fluid, unpredictable patterns of our antique carpet. Conversely, Calacatta Oro Marble Tile by TileBar has a stunning natural marbled finish. This product’s flowing pattern complements the carpet without stealing attention thanks to its white and grey tones.

Inspired by the hotel owner’s travel experience and its link to the venue’s design, we next added materials reminiscent of foreign shores. Oak Reiter by Kahrs Group and Grande by Koroseal Interior Products are both beige, reminding us of the stone-colored walls. These two products, along with Walnut, American Burl by Koroseal Interior Products, have natural raw textures. This pairs brilliantly with the decaying walls and antique carpet, while further channel feelings of nature. The aqua tones of Metal Matrix Wall Tile by Architessa and blue of Transparent by CARVART are reminiscent of the ocean. Similarly, the deep yellow of Avion by Garrett Leather is like a beaming sun. Together, these products force you to imagine setting sail to foreign shores off on an adventure.

Sitting right next to Pompidou in Paris is Atelier Brancusi. This place is a reconstruction of the studio of renowned Romanian-born artist Constantin Brancusi. In the atelier, there are 137 sculptures, 87 bases, 41 drawings, two paintings, and more than 1600 grass photographic plates and prints by the artist.

Brancusi died in 1957, leaving behind a lot of his work in his studio, which consisted of 11 joined studios. The Romanian artist would break down walls to adjoin studios and create various environments to exhibit his work. He considered the relationship between sculptures and the space they occupied to be of crucial importance.

In 1997, the Atelier Brancusi as we know it today opened its doors on the esplanade of the Center Pompidou. So much of Brancusi’s work is on display at the atelier, giving you an idea of how much the artist put into the world. There are wood and plaster sculptures, bronze colonnades, animal shapes, and photographic studies. It is a beautiful and inspiring place to visit.

Inspired by the stone and natural textures of Brancusi’s work, we recolored the Stone Surface carpet. This is part of the nature collection by ege carpets, which takes inspiration from forests, deserts, and oceans. This light recolor of the carpet allows you to bring a textured palette to your next interior design project.

We created a material board that focuses on a textured palette with the atelier colors and the recolored carpet in mind. We included dark woods like Texas Mesquite 83000 and Artisanal Hardwoods. Keeping the dark brown theme, we also included different textured textiles like Artisan Textured Finishes by CopperSmith, Basketcase by Cortina Leathers, Lafayette Velvet by Opuzen, and Chesney by Valley Forge Fabrics. Additionally, we decided to bring some lighter tones of cream and white by adding Cove, True Terrazzo, Concrete Look Porcelain Paver, and Passion. To tie in the soft colors with the dark ones, we included mid-toned neutral paints like Crewel Tan by Sherwin-Williams and Mesa Tan by Dunn-Edwards Paints.

If you like our textured palette, you might be interested in our Easy Recolor Program. We used this to recolor our Stone Surface carpet, enabling us to source the perfect backdrop for our textured palette. Using our online tool, you can do the same.
