Aerial view carpet pattern inspired by Mayan birds eye view artwork

Angelina Quic Ixtamer is a Guatemalan artist born in San Juan La Laguna village on Lake Atitlan. She is one of only a few women painters in the village. Many women in her village choose to weave and embroider; being an artist is not so popular. Her oil paintings are unique for her town, which is controversial to the La Laguna village tradition. She has been criticized numerous times for her work but still chooses to create her oil paintings as her passion. Even though she does not do textile art, many of her paintings are of women who are weaving handcrafted textiles. We’re taking inspiration from her work for an aerial view carpet.

Her colorful paintings are unique for being an aerial bird’s eye view of her subjects. She uses tropical color oil paints that incorporate Guatemalan color techniques. She also uses the tropical plants and fruits that are symbolic of her country. One painting titled “Flower and Fruit Market Overhead” is a painting that portrays the workers collecting fruits and flowers for the market. She also features several women weavers creating beautiful works of textile art in “Weavers Overhead.” Next to the women are yarn balls, where they create handmade masterpieces to sell for the textile shops. She also designs many geometric patterns with the fruits and plants that make the whole painting look vibrant and exotic.

Similarly, we create a beautiful birds-eye view custom carpet design that resembles her work. Our custom design has clusters of people dressed in pink, green, and blue shirts. They are all clustered differently, which causes irregular organic patterns when viewing from up top.

Just as Ixtamer creates oil paintings to represent her culture, we also use organic materials such as ECONYL regenerated nylon in our carpet. Talk Carpet is now also a part of DIFFA’s specify with care program, and 1% of sales revenue will be donated to DIFFA to fight against HIV/AIDS.

This specific aerial view carpet is offered as wall-to-wall carpet, however, we can also design custom patterns specifically for carpet tile installations. With our custom program, we can create a pattern entirely to your design brief. We will send you a custom sample in seven business days. There is a selection of nine carpet substrates, such as Axminster-style wool, nylon blends, recycled nylon, or regular nylon. We are always here to answer any of your design questions through our chat feature or by email on our contact page.
