During our Scottish exploration, we visited the idyllic village of Braemar. The well-known village hosts the Braemar Gathering Highland games, held annually on the first Saturday in September, and is traditionally attended by the British royal family. Additionally, the village is popular for the Cairngorms National Park, which was established in 2003. The park covers a range of mountains and surrounding hills, creating incredible scenery.
In Braemar, we stayed at the Fife Arms hotel. The Russel Sage Studio recently redesigned this unique hotel with 46 bedrooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar, a spa, and an event space. The hotel was built in the 19th century and the plans of the hotel were created by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, an architect whose fame grew after royal patronage. The size of the hotel is a clear sign of its popularity, especially after the Queen and the Royal family would often visit the village. Russel Sage Studio’s work of redesigning the hotel is thoughtful and thorough. Every piece of artwork, décor, and furniture is intentional.
Out of all the spaces in the hotel, a striking marble ceiling at one of the common areas of the Fife Arms is what inspires us. The uniquely painted ceiling brought the vintage furniture in the living space a distinctly modern touch. The ceiling featured blues, greens, reds, yellows, and white swirled around creating a marble effect. Therefore, we decided to recolor the Marbling carpet. This marble carpet features similar colors to the ceiling at the hotel.
With the marble carpet in mind, we created a material board that makes the carpet truly shine. Inspired by the plaid walls in the hotel, we decided to include Plaidtastic by KnollTextiles. Additionally, we included Natural Walnut by Wallplanks to bring in the dark wood tones that we present in the Fife Arms. However, we wanted to include some brighter colors. Therefore, we included Lime Rickey, Tailored Tweed, and Venetian Gold. Lastly, we included A new twist and Auckland to add some texture and color, and Macarena to bring in a neutral tone.
If you want to incorporate the marble carpet in your next interiors project, our recolor program allows you to do just that. The program’s online tool allows you to choose among our myriad of available designs and recolor them to your liking. Additionally, we offer nine different substrates, and you can get a sample within just five business days. If you want to learn more about the program, contact us.
