Hotels aren’t just a place for staying the night. The hotel’s design will enhance the guest’s experience, allowing them to observe the local environment closely. We enjoyed staying in a contemporary glass treehouse that seamlessly blends into the atmosphere on our recent journey to Colombia. Bio Habitat Hotel is specially designed to allow visitors to immerse themselves in Colombia’s nature.
The dense forests of the Pereira mountains host the Bio Habitat Hotel. The property spreads across 16,000 square meters, providing a total of 12 habitats ready to host curious guests. The designers made sure that each glass treehouse perfectly blends into the environment.
The Bio Habitat Hotel features a unique architectural approach, which the main idea is to avoid disrupting the environment. Each glass treehouse features a bio-design that blends into the surrounding. The architects grabbed inspiration from the natural colors, shapes, materials, and textures in the surroundings to design the structure. They take advantage of nature’s powers to eliminate the need for modern appliances.
In addition, guest rooms don’t have air conditioning systems and rely solely on passive design. The passive design takes advantage of the local climate to maintain the right temperature. The buildings are thin rocks that release heat and high ceilings to allow air circulation. The roof has rich foliage, allowing for proper drainage during heavy rainfall.
As soon as we stepped in, we felt like the glass treehouse created a closer bond with nature. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide a magnificent sight over the lush Colombina forests. Each detail perfectly fits in the concept of creating a bio habitat.
The interiors allow guests to develop an intimate relationship with nature. We love how they managed to execute sustainable design with a contemporary vibe. The furnishings are modern and stylish yet manage to fit the overall idea. The small terrace provides a peaceful spot for observing the forest. The stone floors add a touch of visual interest while being cohesive with the environment. Butterflies will land on your hand, allowing you to establish a more intimate relationship with flora and fauna in the Colombina forest.
The furniture provides a comfortable and luxurious experience after exploring the beauty of Colombia’s mountains. The furnishings and finishes are sustainable. Therefore, the treehouses are ideal for adventurous travelers willing to explore the forest but still access modern amenities and luxury.
The whole property provides utmost relaxation and peace, and walking around is an experience on its own. The swing chair provides a comfy spot, allowing you to take some time for yourself and indulge in reflective thinking.
The hotel lobby follows the connection with nature while keeping the contemporary spirit. The large wooden trunk serves as a coffee table introducing an organic feel. Designers completed the rustic trunk with a leather Chesterfield sofa to create a comfy and sophisticated seating area for welcoming guests. The cowhide rug fits the overall mood, introducing an eccentric vibe.
The Bio Habitat Hotel is a unique experience, and the close relationship with nature reminds us of a place we have been before. The Treehotel in Sweden follows a similar approach, providing a peaceful experience with minimal disruptions to the woods.
