Christophe is one of our founders and creative director. His passions are interiors, cooking, and traveling the globe for new inspiration.

One of our recent discoveries is the Masa Coffee shop in Bogota, Colombia. The cafe has a generous amount of character, both inside and outside. The structure creates an ideal balance of modern and cozy,  standing proudly among the buildings in a northern residential neighborhood in Bogota.

Masa Coffee shop features a balanced mix of industrial features and outstanding architecture. The use of simple shapes and distinct textures creates an environment with a memorable character. We love how the designers managed to keep the ambiance warm and welcoming but still highlight the beauty of the unfinished.

THE DESIGNERS

The team at Studio Cadena is responsible for this urban masterpiece called Masa Coffee shop Bogota. The building consists of a coffee shop, bakery, and restaurant. The three units flow into each other while still visually separated for intimacy. They divided the open plan spaces into different zones to provide intimacy but keep everything connected.

MODERN BRUTALISM

The modern concrete building has large triangular openings that give it a unique look. The openings reveal the cozy interior, inviting those passing by for a quick coffee break. This signature feature makes the building stand out in the neighborhood. On top of that, the triangular windows give this coffee shop character and make it more open to the outdoors, while smartly incorporating the letter M in a hidden way.

A brick-paved path surrounds the structure, creating a nice contrast with the rigid concrete walls. The red bricks break down the sterile look of the concrete and give it a more charming appearance. The ridges are a brilliant architectural detail that casts shadows on the exterior walls, providing varying texture as the daylight changes.

The interior features an unexpected combination of warm and cool tones while expressing geometric motifs. Round and triangular shapes prevail through the interior, introducing a subtle dose of visual interest. We spotted openings at the most unexpected places, such as this tiered seating area. The leafy plants enhance the outstanding furniture design and make the space look more lively. The presence of round mirrors matches the vibe and contributes to a cohesive look.

We love how the designers from Studio Cadena managed to balance the elements to perfection. The cozy and relaxed ambiance features wooden tables and chairs. The printed concrete floor and ridged walls bring the industrial vibes but keep things playful. The presence of greenery lifts the mood, creating an inviting ambiance for enjoying a cup of coffee. The large round window overlooks a lovely outdoor patio, available as an alfresco dining option during the summer.

One of the fascinating details that caught our attention is this wooden pegboard wall at the bakery. It truly creates a smart display system for freshly baked goods. The warm wood creates a remarkable contrast with the cold concrete while creating an inviting space. While admiring the refined aesthetics, you can grab a drink from the sleek concrete bar.
