Subtle grid carpet with a gentle nod to Machu Picchu

Our recent trip to Machu Picchu provided us with unlimited inspiration. The Inca citadel emphasizes an abundance of greenery, textured stone walls, and intriguing city gridwork. Therefore, we translated these elements into a stunning mood board. Machu Picchu was believed to be a secluded royal retreat, and the exact use is still unknown. The 15th-century citadel features outstanding stonework specially designed to withstand large earthquakes. The city features authentic Inca architecture, spread over with terraced foundations adjusted to the shape of the surroundings. Therefore, it is one of the world’s best examples of landscape architecture.

City Network RECOLORED by ege carpets is an ideal grid carpet that will tie the elements together. It is reminiscent of the ancient city’s layout while incorporating a similar color scheme. The structures follow a rectangular ground plot, which is an authentic pattern for Inca architecture.

Azulej Flores by Stone Source carries a neutral note, blending with the other nature-inspired elements. The porcelain tiles are an ideal pick for areas with bold accents, as they won’t overpower them. We introduced Wool Buttons by Pollack to our carefully curated mood board to bring a dose of texture. The upholstery fabric brings a natural touch, which complements the grid carpet.

To build up the mood board, we added intriguing geometric tiles that fit the color scheme. Puzzle Piece by LIVDEN features a white and sage combination while having an exquisite pattern. Hearth by Maharam is an impeccable upholstery fabric that brings serenity. The sand tone is neutral enough to let other accent pieces stand out without taking all the attention. For example, it will allow the grid carpet to stand out with the design.

When it comes to flooring, we feel like we could add a dose of personality to this mood board. Therefore, Scirocco H2B by Arto is an ideal choice to fit the mood. The terracotta tiles bring charm with the striking pattern, with a muted color scheme to remain neutral. For countertop choice, we feel like getting a dark surface with a natural texture. Babylon Gray by MSI is dark quartz with a sleek concrete finish, bringing a luxurious touch to this mood board. Hailey by Revolution Performance Fabrics is a cream upholstery fabric that freshens up this mood board. To obtain a subtle visual touch, we played with Alexandria by Posh Textiles. The intriguing material comes with natural colors, perfectly fitting the overall idea of this project.
