As we wandered away from Milan’s urban chaos, we visit the avantgarde blue building at via Balzaretti, 4 . Toiletpaper Home is the quirky world of Toiletpaper magazine. Their headquarters prove that unexpected things can coexist. The unique facade features masculine hands holding lipsticks, a truly unexpected sight. Therefore, it gives us an impression of what’s inside, a true pop art color palette explosion .
In 2010, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari created a magazine that soon changed track. The newly shaped idea is to showcase artistic photos without closing them in a frame. The collaboration includes Seletti, marking the beginnings of a new home decor collection. Featured during Milan Design Week 2021, the furnishings show off authentic style characterized by trumpets, colorful snakes, and hands holding lipsticks. The designer pieces tell a maximalist story through images, fabrics, and colors.
The Toiletpaper home is an unexpected mix of elements. For example, the black table comes with an authentic print featuring randomly dispersed multi-colored snakes. While the reptiles come in different colors, the contrasting blend of blue and orange prevails through the pattern. The surreal piece is a base for four saws enclosed in glass. The composition looks like it is stuck in time while clearly indicating that minimalism isn’t accepted here.
Inspired by the surreal world within, we created the striking pop art palette. The unexpected mix of luxury and chic inquires a potent combination that gives off eclectic vibes. Starting off with the base of the palette we have our recolored Maxi Poppy carpet design by ege. We recolor this carpet to match all the primary colors seen within the home. We feel the strong contrast between blue and orange provides the ideal base to recreate the feeling. Followed by Prairie Lily, the palette builds a beautiful contrast. This specific rusty orange tone brings warmth while helping the pattern look put together.
Matte by DreamScape is a stunning pattern that found its way to this mood board. The audio cassettes in vibrant colors bring a lively palette that matches the overall mood. 10 Downing Street by Benjamin Moore is a signature tone that puts the samples together, achieving the ideal balance.
The Color Wheel Weave Mosaic fits the color scheme while adding a dose of texture for playfulness. The strategic incorporation of Black Copper adds depth and a sense of dimension. Therefore, we translated Toiletpaper Magazine’s vibrance into a stunning pop art palette. The carefully curated materials on our board emphasize the beauty of the unexpected.
