Looking back at our travels to the South of France, we decided to create a new mood board. We drew inspiration from an incredible piece of upcycled artwork at Villa Datris, a small foundation based in Provence. The center showcases extraordinary creations, all made from repurposing old waste materials. However, this unique green piece stood out to us in particular. We love the use of vibrant greens, ranging from deep forest to lime green tones. Amazingly, this entire piece is made from old bottle caps and electronic parts. These are arranged to resemble a tribal headdress. Overall, the piece draws reference and critique to the tons of waste shipped off to African wastelands.
With such creativity and meaning behind it, we chose this artwork as inspiration for our mood board. As the backdrop, we used the Wild Meadow Recoloured carpet by Ege. This moss carpet draws on the same greens used in the center of the artwork, and the darker tones scattered around the edges. Keeping on-trend, we used other materials from the same color palette. Natural by SICIS, Mous Hellgrian by Organoid, Bespoke by James Dunlop Textiles, for example, are all in different green hues. This reflects the plethora of green tones found in the original artwork.
To mimic the use of circular elements, we layered different materials with circular patterns over the moss carpet. We love the use of Treasures Moon by Porcelanosa in particular. It has the same metallic feel as the repurposed electrical elements and a complimentary circular shape. The unique Zigrino by Barbarossa Leather is another great material with circular prints and metallic accents. Other materials selected include Calais by LBI Boyd Design Resource, Drift by Burch, and Silver by Greyne Hardwood Flooring. We finished the mood board off with Brushed Silk II by Maya Romanoff and Napoleon Gray® Tile by Phenix Marble Company.
