Egypt, a country linking northeast Africa with the Middle East, dates to the time of the pharaohs. It is a place popular for finding amazing design inspiration. Throughout Luxor and Aswan, we visit many villages that have houses made out of mud bricks. The people made huts for their houses out of mud and papyrus reeds. Since the Nile River would flood every year, it would wash away the mud huts. They decided to start using the mud to create bricks, which were stronger than just plain mud.
The inspiration for this mood board comes from the faded colors of the weathering homes in the villages. Many of them are left there just to fade away, but the muted colors and imperfect surfaces are what we love. Many of these homes have old furniture that’s been left untouched. To resemble the contrast between the earth tones and the blue sky, we recolored our Chenille carpet design and used that as the backdrop.
We pair the gradient carpet tile with other contract products from Material Bank. We added Sweater weather, a textured piece of fabric, and matched it with Beatriz from Posh Textiles. To resemble the mud bricks of these homes, we use ceramics and tiles called Basaltine and Zellige Unglazed. Heather grey is a stone that pairs perfectly with Sovereign Plank from WoodCo. To balance the different materials together, we add Hopsack and Dark Pewter.
With our Easy Recolour concept, you too can create a personalized carpet within seconds.
