Nelson Mandela was a political and revolutionary leader who was born in the Village of Mvezo on July 18, 1918. Mandela studied law at the University of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. He is most celebrated for standing against apartheid. Throughout his lifetime he receives more than 250 awards, including the Nobel Prize. Thanks to his bravery and selflessness, Nelson Mandela earns the nickname ‘Father of the Nation in South Africa’.

Walking through the neighborhoods in South Africa, it is not uncommon to find artworks of him. One of our favorite pieces of Mandela is this street art by Sabz of the Father of the Nation. This piece features African patterns on his suit jacket. Patterns offer us an insight into society’s symbols, which show their beliefs and history. African patterns feature geometric shapes that used to be painted by hand. The earliest signs of African patterns are present in their architecture.

Inspired by the Mandela artwork, we create this beautiful and brightly colored African carpet design made with different textile patterns. This custom African carpet pattern features bright colors like coral, green, blue, and yellow. The unique shapes of the design add a unique touch to any space. It adds dimension because of the chaotic compilation of patterns, but yet they all blend seamlessly with each other. It is a beautiful way to pay homage to the patterns of African culture.

Just like Mandela, we give back. Talk Carpet is a part of DIFFA’s specify with care program, meaning that 1% of custom carpet sales revenue will be donated to fight against HIV/AIDS.  Our custom program offers nine carpet constructions, budget-friendly options, and any design that you can think of. If you want a sample of this African carpet design or your own custom design, we can send it to you within seven business days. Additionally, we use the least amount of material possible to further reduce waste. Three of our carpet substrate options are made from Econyl recycled nylon. If you want to create a unique and completely customized pattern, contact us.
