We are utterly obsessed with Thebe Magugu’s Spring 2021 collection. This collection has hidden spy themes he incorporates into his abstract designs. He always surprises us with counterintelligence themes in his collections, and this year has just gotten better. Just as spies are still concealing and revealing themselves as part of their job, he notices that clothes also have the same purpose. We’re taking inspiration from his work for our modern polka dot carpet.
Covert agent Olivia Anne Marie Forsyth inspired Thebe to create this camouflage-style line. Going beyond typical spy cliches such as trench coats and sunglasses, Magugu includes fingerprints and zig-zag lines of a polygraph test. The collection also includes sheriff hats and berets as unique fashion accessories.
Carefully paying attention to the smallest details, he crafts a blue polka dot dress and a black and white polka dot dress. From far away, the vibrant dresses look like an abstract pattern. But from up close, the dots of the design are prints of Forsyth’s fingers.
Similarly, our polka dot carpet translates Magugu’s spy themes. Our unique polka dot print has irregular shapes, which resemble what a fingerprint would look like. The individual dots are in parallel boxes to resemble a unique code that spies use to communicate.
