Located on the edge of the Thar Desert, Jodhpur is a city in Rajasthan with many names. The most recognizable by being known as the Blue City. This thanks to a sea of blue-colored homes that stretch for more than 10 kilometers along the historic walled old city walls. Many people have different theories on why these are painted blue. Some believe it is because of the status symbol. According to these people, the Brahmin community painted their houses blue to differentiate themselves from the lower-class people. Others believe it repels insects like termites and helps to keep the city cool. Jodhpur is now a popular tourist stop for many travelers and the inspiration for our watercolor carpet and materials palette. The city has earned recognition for its textile industry, furniture shops, cuisine, museums, tours, and many other attractions.
To pay homage to India’s blue city, we recolor watercolour by ege carpets to match the hues of blue and violet you see throughout the city. Using that as a canvas for our material palette, we add some fun pops of color like Raffia by Barbarossa Leather and Impress Dreamcatcher by Garrett Leather. To help visualize your space better, we include some images from our friends at Bernhardt designs to showcase how great their lilypad seating looks in this setting.
