The museum that became synonymous with a city transformation phenomenon, the “Bilbao effect, can’t miss from our North of Spain tour. Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim opened in 1997, boosted Bilbao’s economy with smashing success, and changed the way architects and cities think about museums. To date, the museum has had over 22 million visitors and fulfilled its original intentions as a transformational project.

The design resembles a boat that also flips its tail, like a fish jumping out of the Nervión river. The walk around the building is magnificent, exploring the different angles and sparkling imagination. It also allows exploring the outdoor artworks such as the giant flower puppy by Jeff Koons, the spider by Louise Bourgeois and the Arcos Rojos by Daniel Buren installed on and under the La Salve bridge.
