Comic book route in Brussels brings comics to life

Comic books have a special place in Belgians’ heart thanks to the incredible success of some well known Belgian authors. In 1929 HergĂ© introduced the wildly successful Tintin series and has sold over 200 million copies worldwide since. Other well-known series are The Smurfs by comic artist Peyo and Spirou by Rob-Vel.

As a tribute to its authors, a comic book route was established in 1991, which takes you through Belgium’s capital. Characters come to life on colorful murals on the walls of historic houses. The project started with one mural, but locals asked for more to brighten up their neighborhoods. Today there are well over 50 murals to be discovered.
